Sea

I thought I might share with you a short story I wrote at uni. It's a funny little thing. We had to write a 200 words story reflecting our research findings so it's not very serious. My research is on the effects of a book cover on the purchase of a book. I also wrote this after I had just read The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Anderson. Anyway, here it is.

The Wise Sea Kings

Down in the ocean, far below the waves, in the depths of the deep dark blue, there were two sea princes. They were brothers and their names were Triton and Poseidon. Triton enjoyed to read, mostly novel. He read of giants, fairies and goblins that lived in a land above. He also read of ancient sea tales and romantic encounters. The entire sea kingdom thought Triton was the wisest brother for he did not swim anywhere without a bok in his hand. Poseidon grew jelous of his brother, so he decided to buy some books to read of his own.
Poseidon was overwhelmed by the incredible amount of information and colour inside the book store. As he floated down the last isle he saw his brother swim into the store. He watched his brother swim straight u to the fantasy section, pick up a book, purchase it, and swim back out again. This made Poseidon stressed and furious! Poseidon's fishtail glowed red with anger. A saled assistant comforted him to calm him down.
"There is no need to be stressed," said the Sales Assistant, "What type of book are you after?"
"One that will make me wise and clever like my brother." replied Poseidon.
"In that case, you may wish to look in the cooking section where the book covers have images of food, or in the history section where there are book covers with historian's names in big bold letters. Or, if you are too stressed in the store, just download a book on your iPhone." suggested the Sales assistant.
"How much will a book cost here?" asked Poseidon.
"It depends. You can find cheap books if you do not care much for the cover detail. But our store is in fact closing down so most of our books are discounted anayway."
"Thank you," said Poseidon, "I think I'll buy a book on my iPhone for now and come back to buy a paper book tomorrow.
The waves above grew smaller and the sea became calm as the prince returned home.
The book store closed down but Poseidon and Triton continued to read on their iPhones. They eventually became the wise kings of the sea and ruled the ocean together.
